Why Directional Drilling?

Horizontal directional drilling can be used for more than pipelines. It’s also favored in underground construction. Service conduits, cables, and utility pipelines can all be installed with horizontal drilling. Traditional trenching installs may call for the partial demolition of adjacent structures. If a building must temporarily shut down due to construction work, this can disrupt residents’ jobs for weeks on end. HDD takes a less damaging approach. Boreholes can be drilled and pipelines pulled underneath these structures without any damage or demo work required. By tunneling under obstacles, there is no demo work and subsequent reconstruction. There is no restoration and rehabilitation of wetlands and ecosystems. This means the installation process can be completed promptly. When pipeline routes face obstacles such as roadways, railroads, rivers, buildings, and utilities, horizontal boring is typically the most economical option to tackle these challenges. The cost of rerouting traffic, waterways, and utilities, as well as urban demolition and reconstruction can add up quickly. HDD avoids all these costs, keeping the pipeline project within budget.

Directional Boring vs. Trenching

Disruption
Directional boring is much less disruptive than trenching, because you don’t disturb or dig up much of the ground. Trenching is very invasive, and can disrupt landscaping, roads, sidewalks, driveways and more. When you use directional boring, you only disturb the ground you need to disturb – which can result in an easier, smoother process for your project. You also won’t have to fix landscaping or hardscaping and it’s less risky – meaning you are less likely to hit pipes or other wires.

Precision
Directional boring is precise, meaning you can install the wires or pipes exactly where they need to go without planning around existing obstacles. Trenching also takes a lot more time – not counting replacing the things you had to displace to dig in the first place!

Eco-friendly
Directional boring is also eco-friendly. This is because you don’t need to replace perfectly good landscaping or pavement and you also won’t dig up places where plants, animals and insects already live.

No project is too tough for our crews!

Using trenchless technologies, our drilling experts can circumvent the most challenging of environments. We’re known for boring in areas where others say they cannot! We bore through rock, concrete, sand, clay, bluffs and more.

Special challenges include:

River Crossings

River boring presents a host of challenges but nothing that we have not had prior experience dealing with successfully. Although Eurodrill is not an engineering firm, we can consult and work with civil engineers and government agencies as part of your team. Planning a waterway crossing can be time-consuming and having a team of people experienced in underground construction and the use of directional boring technologies is essential.

Our company was designed from the ground up to work with our customers from the planning stage all the way through execution of the work and post construction activities. It may help to think of us as an ON-DEMAND construction team that you can turn to when you need an affordable, reliable and proven solution.

Cold Weather

Yes, we can bore in cold and snow weather. However, it does pose unique challenges concerning the identification of underground utilities and frost lines. Severely cold weather can prohibit (delay) operations but in most cases we deal mostly with additional time to transport and startup. Site preparation times may take longer and full restoration of frozen surface areas sometimes will require a follow up site visit in the spring.

What our customer’s say

“Very professional crew. I'm impressed with their work. Eurodrill sure knows how this job should be done.”

“Very satisfied with the work completed by Eurodrill. Everything was done great. Will use Eurodrill for any upcoming jobs.”

“We were tired of gambling with unknown and unproven contractors. Eurodrill had provided us with quality service and directional bore crews. All I can say is I wish I had found them earlier.”
